His Story
He currently continues the legacy of the New Jerusalem Church that was founded by his grandparents, Pastor James Bolden and wife Missionary Rosie Lee Bolden in 1946. The ministry was succeeded by his parents, Madison and Lucille Bowen in 1970. After Pastor Madison Bowen pastored for 47 years, he past the pastoral baton to his youngest son Stephen L. Bowen, with his wife Shaundra L. Bowen by his side on October 1, 2017.
He has deep roots in the Church Of God In Christ and was taught the precepts of holiness from a child. He served in various departments within his local church as a musician, bible teacher, deacon, trustee and assistant pastor. He also served faithfully in the Greater South Shore District in various capacities and is now serving as assistant superintendent.
Stephen Bowen currently holds an Associate’s Degree from Harold Washington Community College, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Roosevelt University.
In 1979, he started employment as a mail clerk at Charles D. Spencer & Associates (an employee benefit publishing company), and gradually worked his way up through various positions to becoming Editorial Production Coordinator where he managed the publishing production department being a liaison between editors, production artist, graphic designers, printers, and print bureaus. In 2002, he served as the New Media Project Manager for the ‘Spencer’ products at Wolters Kluwer, a global provider of publications and publishing information.
With such a great background in editorial and publishing production, along with being a bible scholar, Stephen Bowen was inspired after 3 years of research on ‘anger’ to write a book entitled Dealing With Anger From a Natural And Spiritual Perspective. He believes this book was Godly inspired and introduces a unique awareness, understanding, and approach about dealing with anger in a simple way. He has been the guest on WVON twice with Cliff Kelly being one of the host, and the guest on several other radio stations where he shared key principles in his book. He has done seminars and workshops at several churches and organizations in which his principles and techniques were highly commended. The book Dealing With Anger From a Natural And Spiritual Perspective if available at Xulonpress.com and Amazon.com.
Pastor Stephen Bowen is also pursuing other opportunities as a book writer and other aspects of publishing production along with a vision for expanding the ministry of New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ.
